"Mother Earth is my first priority in any art piece that I do. I have a spiritual connection to natural materials, which keeps my priorities in line. The history of First Nations People is marked in artistic ways, basketry, rock wall painting and face painting, this keeps us deeply rooted to the past."

Leonard A. George Jr. grew up amidst the smell of bone dust, cottonwood and shoe polish as he watched his father and grandfather at work as carvers. His life as an artist began at the age of seven when he created his first "real art piece" based on a memory of his past.

Leonard attributes his artistic talents, primarily as a painter, to his first art instructor stating, "If it wasn't for Mary Longman, I wouldn't be the artist I am today."
