Years Working Towards Language Revitalization: Lifetime

Pewi is a champion of the Kwak’wala language and her passion for keeping the nation strong stems from the teachings and language of the ‘Namgis Nation. Pewi is determined that those teachings will continue, so she practices them daily and raises her son in those teachings.

Pewi has made major contributions to the culture and language by documenting the history of the ‘Namgis at our local museum and creating education resources for language studies, including activity books and dictionaries. Pewi’s dedication to language retention and revitalization can be seen in the language classes she facilitates and the cultural activities in which she participates.

Pewi is an ambassador for the ‘Namgis and she has travelled internationally sharing the ‘Namgis culture and traditions.

Pewi is truly a champion and mentor of the Kwak’wala language and an inspiration to the young and old of the ‘Namgis First Nation.
