Opportunities and Challenges
Opportunities:
Immersion Camps are the ideal way to bring language to the community. As a small Nation, Lake Cowichan is always willing to work collaboratively with and through their partners and partner organizations. With interests on the west and east side of Vancouver Island, Lake Cowichan attempts to take advantage of larger groups that we are a part of such as the Hul'q'umi'num'-Gulf Islands National Parks Reserve Committee, to assist us in maintaining these unique interests on both sides of the Island.
Challenges:
The Lake Cowichan First Nation is a small Nation and has interests on the west and east sides of Vancouver Island, which have entirely different languages. Lake Cowichan First Nation does not have any fluent speakers on or off Reserve, we will have to rely heavily on other Hul'q'umi'num' Language Speakers to assist us.
