Mt. Edziza is a volcano complex located in Tahltan territory, southeast of Telegraph Creek. The high quality obsidian (glass-like volcanic stone) produced by ancient eruptions of Mt. Edziza was highly valued in prehistoric trade networks. Archaeologists have identified obsidian tools linked to Mt. Edziza at sites from Alaska to Alberta dating back 10,000 years. Mt. Edziza continues to hold important heritage and spiritual values to the Tahltan People, and the Nation is involved its protection and management through the Mt. Edziza Provincial Park and the adjacent Mt. Edziza Conservancy.
