Vancouver Island





The Ahousaht First Nation has the largest population of all Nuučaan̓uɫ First Nations and their main village is at Maaqtisiis (Marktosis)[[Wikipedia Marktosis entry:]] on Flores Island on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Ahousaht traditional territory encompasses Flores Island and areas in and around Clayoquot Sound as well as neighbouring valleys and mountains.

Tseshaht First Nation

"The Tseshaht people live on the west Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, one of the 14 Nations that make up the Nuu chah nulth Tribal Council. Tseshaht translates as “the people of c̓išaa” while Nuu chah nulth means “all along the mountains and sea” and is descriptive of a people living along the mountains that face the Pacific Ocean. c̓išaa is located on what is today known as Benson Island, one of the Broken Group Islands in Barclay Sound. The Tseshaht people were created at c̓išaa and came to own all of the Broken Group Islands and lands up the canal to Port Alberni.

Ucluelet First Nation

Located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada the Ucluelet First Nation (UFN) traditional territory is spanned out over nine reservations. The main village of the UFN, Ittatsoo Reserve No. 1 (IR1) holds a population of approximately 200 residents and is located 28 kms from the rural community of Ucluelet.[[copied from UFN website:]]

Uchucklesaht Tribe

The Uchucklesaht Tribe has two reserves that are situated approximately 24 miles down the Barkley Sound, southwest from Port Alberni. The first reserve is immediately past the Uchucklesaht Inlet on the West side of Barkley Sound, named “Cowishulth”. The second reserve is located at the head of Uchucklesaht Inlet and is named “Hilthatis”.[[copied from Maan-nulth website:]]
